چکیده

The pineal gland is very important human endocrine gland and its location and size is very important for the neurologist and neurosurgeons and for the radiologist because in certain radiological investigations it is the guide of midline and its right or left shifting is highly suggestive of space occupying lesion in the brain. The aim of study was to find out the morphometric parameters of pineal gland and their variations in the different age groups. For this 100 cases were scaned by 3D CT Scan out of which 73 are males & 27 are females from mp region. All the measurements were taken in sagittal, coronal and axial view by CT scan & measurement done directly on computer on DICOM images using the DICOM viewer software. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 16.0 (SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL)& using statistical tools like mean, SD, t-test, diagrams, one way ANOVA analysis of variance for comparing different parameters. There was significant difference found in length (p<0.01) between different age groups. In males significant difference was found in the width between 41-50 and >50 age groups (p<0.05). In females significant difference was found for the parameter length with respect to age groups (p<0.01). We concluded that to study the morphometric parameters of pineal gland by 3D CT Scan and their variations may help in certain radiological investigations & to distinguish healthy tissue from various pineal tumors.

Evaluation of Absorbed Dose of Critical Organ in Rando Phantom under Head, Abdomen and Pelvis Spiral CT Scan by Thermo Luminescent Dosimetery - TLD

Background & Objectives: Computed tomography (CT) represents 11% of all diagnostic radiology procedures but it contributes to almost 67% of the total effective dose to the human population. In head and neck CT which consist of 1/3 of total CT scans, other critical organs such as lenses and thyroid are in the radiation field. Also in the abdomen and pelvis scan, irradiation of ovaries is unavoid...

Background and Aim: Intracranial physiologic calcification is not accompanied by any evidence of disease and has no demonstrable pathological cause. It is often due to calcium deposition in the blood vessels of different structures of the brain. Computed tomography (CT) is the most sensitive means of detection of for this calcification. The aim of this study was the assessment of the intracrani...

Pineal region tumors.

The management of pineal region tumors has changed considerably since the introduction of microsurgery and CT scanning. Analysis of our own series of 36 patients, comparing those treated in the pre-CT scan and microsurgery era with those treated afterwards, shows the important role these two techniques play. Current controversies in treatment and our own approach to management of pineal region ...

Diagnostic accuracy of susceptibility-weighted magnetic resonance imaging for the evaluation of pineal gland calcification

OBJECTIVES To determine the diagnostic performance of susceptibility-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (SWMR) for the detection of pineal gland calcifications (PGC) compared to conventional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) sequences, using computed tomography (CT) as a reference standard. METHODS 384 patients who received a 1.5 Tesla MRI scan including SWMR sequences and a CT scan of the br...
